About
Michelle Cannon is an amateur contemporary artist based in Northamptonshire. She is a married mother of two grown up children and has recently found the time to devote to developing her painting practice. Michelle is mainly self-taught but has attended a number of evening classes and online courses where she has learned the basics of colour theory and other art composition principles plus painting techniques. She cites the natural world and the emotions that being outside brings as her inspiration. She can often be found looking up at the night sky in wonderment of its beauty. She likes to work in acrylic paint and inks plus soft pastels and spray paint on canvas.
In her work she likes to use very subtle texture and muted tones mixed with splashes of colour, to give the feeling of a time and place. Her work has some ethereal qualities and is quite unstructured, using layers, stencils and mark making to add interest. Her way of working allows her the freedom to create in the moment and to go with the flow, but she also likes to add some structure.
